Trujillo

Trujillo needs 3 days: touring Chan Chan, the largest adobe city in pre-Columbian America and capital of the Chimú kingdom, on one, the Huacas del Sol and de la Luna, Moche temples with polychrome murals, on another, and the beach and surf of Huanchaco on the third. September-December brings the mildest weather, avoiding the coastal winter's marine humidity. It's mid-priced for Peru. Chan Chan, spanning over 20 km², was the largest mud-brick city in pre-Hispanic America, and Huanchaco, its neighboring beach town, is the birthplace of the «caballitos de totora,» reed boats used by fishermen for over 3,000 years and considered a direct forerunner of the surfboard.
