San Bernardino

San Bernardino needs 1 day: touring the shore of Lake Ypacaraí, with its beach clubs, century-old summer houses and the municipal bathing area, in a single day. December-March is high season, when Asunción's upper class relocates to town for the summer. It's mid-to-high priced by Paraguayan standards. Founded by German immigrants in the late 19th century, it's Paraguay's most traditional summer resort town, just 45 km from Asunción, and its weekend estates have for generations been the capital's society's summer refuge.
