Ilha do Mel

Ilha do Mel needs 2 days: walking to the Farol das Conchas, a 19th-century lighthouse at the island's tip, on one, and touring the ruins of Fortaleza Nossa Senhora dos Prazeres, an 18th-century colonial fort, on the other. December-March brings the Brazilian summer. It's inexpensive for the Paraná coast. It has no paved roads or cars -everything moves on foot or by handcart-, and is reachable only by boat from Paranaguá or Pontal do Paraná, which kept it one of the last stretches of Brazilian coast without heavy urbanization.
