Capitólio needs 2 days: touring the canyons of Lake Furnas by boat, with rock walls up to 30 meters tall and dozens of waterfalls dropping straight into the water, on one, and hiking to the Vale das Cachoeiras lookout or the Cachoeira do Escorrega waterfall, on the other. April-September brings the driest weather, though the lake level is higher after summer rains. It's mid-to-upper priced, with boat trips as the main expense. The artificial lake of the Furnas dam, built in the 1960s, carved fjord-like rock canyons over time that became a viral social media phenomenon since the late 2010s, kickstarting tourism in a previously little-known area.
