Day Trips from Salta

The Tren a las Nubes ('Train to the Clouds') is a popular historic train ride that runs from Salta to the Polvorilla viaduct. This route is one of the highest-altitude train journeys in the world, reaching over 4,000 meters above sea level in some stretches, with bridges standing 63 meters above the ground. The excursions depart from Plaza Antofagasta, opposite Salta's railway station, about a five-minute walk from the Pajcha Museum in Salta, Argentina. You board the train at the San Antonio de los Cobres station, a stop on line C-14 in Argentina and part of the route followed by the Tren a las Nubes. It is located at the southern end of the town of San Antonio de los Cobres.
