Humahuaca

Humahuaca needs 1 day: the Monument to the Heroes of Independence, a monumental bronze sculpture atop a stone staircase, and the Candelaria Church, with its mechanical clock where a life-size figure of San Francisco Solano blesses visitors at noon, on the same walk. April-October is best. It's the cheapest town in the Quebrada, being further from the main tourist route. It's the northernmost and highest-altitude town in the Quebrada de Humahuaca (2,940 meters), and its colonial cabildo holds one of the few mechanical clocks with an articulated figure in all of South America.
