Tigre needs 1 day: sailing by passenger boat through the Paraná Delta's channels on one, and touring the Puerto de Frutos, a former river market now a crafts fair, the same day. March-May and September-November are best, avoiding humid summer heat. It's inexpensive, the most popular day trip from Buenos Aires City, just 30 km away. The Paraná Delta, the only delta in the world that flows into a river rather than the sea, has thousands of inhabited islands with no streets or cars, where the only transport is by boat, and in the late 19th and early 20th centuries it was the fashionable resort of Buenos Aires high society, with British rowing clubs still operating on the river.
