El Tunco

El Tunco needs 2 days: surfing its reef break on one, and touring the nearby Ruta de las Flores with mountain coffee towns on the other. November-April is the best weather window, with better swell from March to October. It's inexpensive, one of the most accessible surf destinations in Central America. Its pig-shaped volcanic rock formation -which gives it its name- and world-class break made it the epicenter of Salvadoran surfing, part of the so-called Costa del Bálsamo, with a young backpacker atmosphere that contrasts with the rest of the country.
