Bath

Bath is a full day trip: the Roman Baths, the best-preserved outside Italy, and Bath Abbey sit within the same honey-colored Georgian old town. April-September is best for walking the Royal Crescent without rain. It's expensive for its size, with lodging prices close to London's in high season. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site in its entirety -not a single monument but the whole city-, and its uniform Georgian architecture inspired the novels of Jane Austen, who lived here for several years.
