Baiona needs 1 day: touring the Monterreal Fortress, an 11th-century walled compound that today wraps around almost the entire peninsula the town sits on, and the harbor where the caravel La Pinta docked in 1493 with the first news of the discovery of America, in a single day. June-September brings the mildest weather in the Rías Baixas. It's mid-priced, with heavy summer demand from Galician and Portuguese tourism. It was the first point in Europe to learn of the discovery of America, and every year it re-enacts that moment with the Arribada festival, when a replica of La Pinta docks again in its harbor.
