Figueres needs 1 day: the Dalí Theatre-Museum, designed by the artist himself as his crowning work -with its geodesic glass dome and giant eggs on the façade- on one, the Castell de Sant Ferran, one of the largest bastioned fortresses in Europe, on the other. April-October is best. It's cheaper than Barcelona, 1.5 hours away by train. Salvador Dalí was born and is buried here, and he designed the museum as a complete surrealist experience in itself -not just a gallery of his works-, making it Spain's most visited museum after the Prado and the Reina Sofía.
