Ohrid

Ohrid needs 3 days: the Church of St. John at Kaneo, on a cliff overlooking the lake, on one, the old town with over 30 medieval churches -nicknamed the «Jerusalem of the Balkans»- on another, and a boat ride on Lake Ohrid, one of the oldest and deepest in Europe, on the third. May-September is best. It's inexpensive for Europe. Lake Ohrid, over 1 million years old with unique biodiversity including endemic species, and its city, with a density of Byzantine churches and monasteries rarely seen outside major religious capitals, form one of the few sites in the world declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site for both natural and cultural reasons.
