Vianden

Vianden is a one-day visit, almost entirely centered on Vianden Castle, one of Europe's largest and most imposing, with views over the Our river valley from its towers. May-September is best for combining the castle visit with the cable car up the hill opposite. It's a small village, affordable by Luxembourg standards, with hotels and restaurants geared toward day-trippers from the capital, 40 km away. It has no train station of its own -it's reached by bus from Ettelbruck, the nearest station.
