Zell am See

Zell am See needs 2 days: the old town by Lake Zell, with turquoise water suitable for swimming in summer, on one, the Kitzsteinhorn glacier in neighboring Kaprun -skiable even at the height of summer- on the other. June-September is best for the lake; December-March for high-altitude skiing. It's mid-priced by Austrian Alpine standards. It's one of the few spots in the Alps where you can swim in a lake and ski on a glacier the same day, thanks to the proximity between the lakeside town and the Kaprun glacier, just 10 km away.
