Isle of Skye

The Isle of Skye needs 3 days: the Old Man of Storr, a rocky pinnacle with sea views after a short hike, on one, the Fairy Pools, crystal-clear waterfalls beneath the Cuillin mountains, on another, and the town of Portree with its colorful harbor houses on the third. May-September brings the most stable weather, though rain is never off the table in the Highlands. It's mid-to-high priced, with limited lodging that pushes prices up in high season. It's the largest and most visited island in the Inner Hebrides, connected to the mainland by a bridge since 1995, and its landscapes -shaped by volcanic and glacial activity- became a global photographic icon thanks to social media over the last decade, without losing its Gaelic identity: the language is still taught in local schools.
