Darvaza

Darvaza needs 1 day (ideally with an overnight camp): the Darvaza gas crater, a 70-meter-wide pit that has burned nonstop since a Soviet drilling accident ignited it in 1971, known as «the Door to Hell», is the sole reason to visit. April-June and September-October are best, and the effect is most striking at night. It's mid-to-high priced given how remote the access is, usually via an organized tour. No one has managed to put it out in over 50 years, and today it's Turkmenistan's most photographed attraction despite sitting in the middle of nowhere, deep in the Karakum Desert.
