Namche Bazaar is the largest and most important town in the Khumbu, at 3,440 meters: home to Sagarmatha National Park's headquarters (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), with the first real view of Everest along the way up, and a weekly Saturday market where neighboring villages come down to trade. Almost every trekker stops here for two nights to acclimatize before continuing up, mostly in March-May or September-November. It has the most complete tourist infrastructure in the area — cafés, trekking shops, internet — before everything gets more basic further uphill.
