Everest Base Camp
Gorak Shep · Koshi Province · Nepal
Everest Base Camp, at 5,364 meters, is the finish line of the Himalayas' most famous trek — a field of rocks and prayer flags beside the Khumbu Glacier, with no direct view of Everest's summit (blocked by Nuptse), but with the imposing Khumbu Icefall as a backdrop. It's reached on foot from Gorak Shep in about 3 hours. Outside climbing season (April-May), the expedition teams' actual camp isn't set up — what visitors see is the spot itself and its marker.
