Byblos

Byblos needs 2 days: the Crusader citadel and the archaeological site with overlapping Phoenician, Roman and Ottoman layers, on one, and the medieval fishing harbor with its seaside restaurants on the other. April-June and September-October are best. It's inexpensive for the region. Continuously inhabited for over 7,000 years, it's considered one of the oldest cities in the world, and its name gave rise to the word «Bible» -from the Greek «byblos», papyrus- because it was the main export port for Egyptian papyrus to Greece in antiquity.
