Yokohama

Yokohama can be seen in a day trip from Tokyo (30 minutes by train): the Minato Mirai district (futuristic waterfront) and Japan's largest Chinatown are the main stops. March-May brings the same mild weather as Tokyo. It's somewhat cheaper than the capital, with a more relaxed, less dense feel. It was Japan's first port opened to international trade in 1859, after centuries of isolation, giving it a cosmopolitan identity distinct from the rest of the country since the 19th century.
