Georgetown

Georgetown needs 2 days: St. George's Cathedral, considered one of the tallest wooden buildings in the world (43.5 meters), on one, and Stabroek Market, with its 1880 iron clock tower dominating downtown, on the other. February-April is best, in the short dry window. It's inexpensive by international standards. Much of the city sits below sea level, protected by a seawall built by Dutch colonists, and it serves as the starting point toward Kaieteur Falls, a 226-meter single-drop waterfall -five times taller than Niagara- deep in the rainforest interior.
