Mount Kilimanjaro (Uhuru Peak)

Mount Kilimanjaro (Uhuru Peak)

Marangu · Kilimanjaro · Tanzania

Kilimanjaro is Africa's highest point (5,895 meters) and the world's tallest freestanding mountain — it isn't part of any range — with permanent snow at the summit despite sitting almost on the equator. Unlike Everest, reaching Uhuru Peak doesn't require mountaineering skills: it's a long, tough hike made hard by altitude, not technical climbing, taking 5 to 9 days depending on the route. July-October and January-March (the dry months) give the best odds of a clear sky at the top.
