Ennedi Massif
Fada · Ennedi Est · Chad
The Ennedi Massif is a labyrinth of canyons, stone arches and sandstone towers sculpted by wind and water over millions of years, with rock art up to 7,000 years old showing a green Sahara once populated by elephants, giraffes and crocodiles. The Guelta d'Archei, a permanent waterhole among the rocks, still holds a population of Nile crocodiles isolated since the desert dried up. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2016.
