Guatemala-Stadt braucht einen Tag: das historische Zentrum und die Plaza de la Constitución sind die Hauptattraktionen, viele Reisende nutzen sie aber nur als Zwischenstopp auf dem Weg nach Antigua oder zum Atitlán-See. November bis April ist die empfohlene Trockenzeit. Es ist günstiger als Antigua Guatemala. Es ist die größte Stadt Mittelamerikas, mit chaotischerem, weniger touristischem Stadtbild als ihre koloniale Nachbarstadt Antigua, und dient vor allem als Lufttor zum Rest des Landes.
