Mai bis September bringt das beste Wetter, im August findet aber das Fringe Festival statt, das größte Bühnenkunstfestival der Welt. Es ist günstiger als London. Die mittelalterliche Altstadt und die geplante georgianische Neustadt, beide UNESCO-Welterbe innerhalb derselben Stadt, stehen für zwei völlig unterschiedliche, nebeneinander bestehende Stadtplanungsepochen — in einer einzigen Hauptstadt selten.
